Avoiding barrel droop — our engineering
KIDD barrels eliminate droop through a resistance-fit mortise-and-tenon system. The barrel tenon is slightly larger than the receiver mortise and maintains identical diameter throughout, ensuring a perfectly solid seat. The shoulder step between the .920" diameter and the tenon is precisely cut — not ramped — allowing the barrel to sit flush and fully supported. This geometric integrity prevents “teeter-totter” movement and long-term alignment drift. Once properly fitted, V-block screws should only be snug — about 10 in-lb — enough to hold the barrel in place without distorting alignment.
Installation & break-in tips
• Inspect: Remove paint or debris from the receiver mortise before installation. • Lubricate: Apply anti-seize compound to the tenon for smooth fitment. • Seat: Start the tenon into the receiver mortise, align the extractor slot, and tap gently with a rubber mallet until seated. • Torque: Tighten V-block screws to ~10 in-lb — just snug. • Break-in: Run two magazines before checking groups; repeat after ammo changes. • Maintenance: Clean the chamber regularly; bore every ~500 rounds (depends on ammo). Over-cleaning can reduce accuracy.
