The right tool for the job.
I've used the Bore Snake on ALL of my firearms ever since they first appeared on the market. They are very easy to use. Just put your favorite cleaning solvent on the first part of the snake, a small amount of oil on the rail end of it, lock the action open, drop the weight into the chamber, let it drop out of the barrel and pull it through. If you feel that you need to, repeat the process. The bore of your barrel will be nice and clean.

These things are about the greatest addition you can make to your gun cleaning kit since....ever. They're especially good for a 10-22 because it's quite difficult to use a standard cleaning rod and go from the chamber to the muzzle properly. With a boresnake you soak the front with the solvent of your choice, thread the weight down the barrel and pull. Repeat 2x. Done.

A Must Have!
These bore snakes are a must for any caliber, any gun. I used to go through the routine of pulling the bolt, running the rod, etc., etc. Now I just soak some solvent into the front of the snake and at the brush protion, lock the bolt back, and run it through the barrel a few times. Does the trick and is a LIFE SAVER when breaking in a barrel.
